When to Page A Midwife?

Your midwives are accessible 24 hours a day by pager to help you with any problems or concerns that cannot wait until your next scheduled appointment. Here are some important reasons to page your midwife immediately:

  • You are in active labour

  • Severe cramping

  • Minimal or no fetal movement over several hours

  • Any vaginal bleeding

  • Your water breaks

  • Severe persistent headache that does not go away

  • Pain or burning when urinating

  • Severe nausea or vomiting

  • You experience a fall

  • Chills and fever, or fever over 38 C or 100 F

  • Disturbance of vision: blurred vision, seeing spots, flashes, or blind spots

This list is not meant to cover all matters of urgent concerns. If you are ever unsure if your concern is urgent, page your midwife.

**Please note, if you are not currently seeing the midwives for midwifery primary care, you should attend Obstetrical Triage at Windsor Regional Hospital - Metropolitan Campus or Erie Shores Healthcare, where you will be seen by the on-call physician.
